Question Will a monitor that only supports VGA but says it displays 1080p display 1080p when converted thrugh a HDMI to VGA converter on a laptop Question Can I power a 20V 170w laptop with a 12V source and a 19V 15A step-up converter? Question Is it possible to convert the LVDS from my laptop motherboard to a VGA or HDMI output for an external monitor? I know it sounds simple and it really is, I'd think it would work the same way with a Dell as a MacBook though. You should see your devices in that list, just pushing input until you get to your laptop should do the trick. But the way I get to the laptop is just using the input on any of my remotes, the Blu Ray player, the Sony remote or even my cable remote. Sometimes, still, you need to go into settings on the laptop and select the Sony as the output device. If you have the laptop open, the sound will play from your laptop, that annoys me as the sound is better on my Sony, so the trick is to leave the laptop closed when you begin - I've got a wireless mouse and keyboard to wake the laptop with. I do have an HDMI cable plugged into an extension on my laptop, then to the Sony.

I actually connected the MacBook to my Sony Bravia via Bluetooth as well, though that shouldn't be necessary. I do this with a MacBook Pro, but the process should work the same for you. Just in case you haven't resolved this problem. I dont know what else to do and since ive used 2 different model converters Im thinking it isnt a bad converter, any help? The computer is set at native 60 hrz, 1920 x 1200.

The computer also doesnt see the TV and it isnt listed in the nvidia control panel like it did with the last TV. I checked the HDMI plug with Blueray and it works. I tried the HDMI cable on something else and it works. Ive bought 2 different vga to hdmi converters and tried both and I get no signal to the TV. I upgraded the TV to a sony bravia xbr43x800e that only has HDMI.
I have a dell laptop that was connected to a sony bravia TV by VGA cable and worked fine. UPDATE: I hooked up another laptop that had an HDMI port and its screen showed on the TV, so the TV isnt the problem and it again confirmed the HDMI cable works. Ive seen plenty of others with this problem but their computers all see the TV and it comes down to something like res.
The fact that the laptop isnt seeing this TV leaves only the converters preventing the signal from going thru the cables or something about the TV. but the converters both say they support 1920x1080 60 hrz.Īs i previously said I know the VGA & HDMI cables, the HDMI port and the laptops ability to see a TV(from previous TV) work. So just as I had initially said, no bad cables and everything was installed correctly and setup properly, thanks for the help everyone but I had to solve it myself, by trying a 3rd converter. It didnt list my Sony but I guess when you use a converter it shows an entry for the converter. Now I had done these same steps with the other converters but they never showed any other options in Multiple Displays. When i selected it the TV finally showed the laptop. opened Nvidia Control Panel, and under Set Up Multiple Displays i found an option for Viewsonic. I bought the CE TECH converter off ebay, plugged it in and rebooted my computer. Helpstar Im running winxp on this old laptop but that isnt the problem it was the converters as I supposed.
